April Selection Box 2026 (Rioja)

This month's Selection Box features six wines (three whites, three reds) from three excellent producers in the historic and prestigious Rioja region of Spain. The wines of Rioja need no 'talking-up', they are quite simply some the best in the world. April's box is available, with notes included, for the reduced price of £86.

Urbina Blanco Viura, Rioja, Spain NV (12.5% Vol)

100% Viura. This white Rioja shows lovely aromatic citrus and floral notes on the nose. It has a well-structured and rounded palate, with apricot, peach and pear flavours, a creamy texture with well-balanced acidity and a long, lingering finish.

Viña Real Barrel Fermented Blanco, Rioja, Spain 2020/21 (13% Vol)

On the nose - pineapple, apple, vanilla and nuttiness from the oak ageing. Fresh and dry on the palate. An interesting wine with lots of class for the price.

Campillo Blanco Barrell Fermented, Rioja, Spain 2023, 2024 (13% Vol)

''Clean, bright, straw yellow with greenish flashes. On the nose it has broad honeyed notes. The barrel is present for the vanilla aromas. In the background there is a floral touch, with white flowers. On the palate it is round, homogeneous, elegant, with good acidity. At the end, light notes of toast are perceived. The nose is dominated by mature fruits, vanilla and spices. The palate is well-balanced and complex with blackcurrant and spicy notes, combined with more black fruit. Good structure and refreshing acidity. Wonderful with rare lamb chops.

Fragrant with red berry aromas. On the palate - blackberry, plum, cherry with good acidity. Goes well with sautéed duck.

''Cherry tone with ruby rim. Intense and complex on the nose. Fruity notes, spices, toasted and cocoa touches. On the palate, good structure and acidity, elegant. Very long finish. It is easy to pair with any type of grilled meat and mushrooms. Some fish with a lot of flavour or fatty, such as tuna or cod. Medium-aged cheeses; Emmental and Gruyere.
