July Selection Box 2024 (Australia and New Zealand)

July is upon us … although the weather would suggest otherwise! Which means it's time for our July 2024 Selection Box - this month we are visiting Australia and New Zealand, two prestigious and varied wine producing countries. We have a lovely crisp and fresh Pinot Grigio by Yalumba, a fine example of Sauvignon Blanc from North Canterbury, an interesting Merlot Rosé from Hawkes Bay, a great value Pinot Noir by Kuki from Marlborough and two different styles of Aussie Shiraz from South Australia for comparison. This month's box is available at the discounted price of £79.

Yalumba Y Series Pinot Grigio, South Australia 2022 (12.5% Vol) Regular Price £13.39 

Aromas of fresh pear, white flowers and green apple, with jasmine, cinnamon and baked apple on the mid-palate. These generous fruit flavours are complemented by a rich, creamy, lingering finish. Made with minimal winemakers intervention and 100% natural yeast fermentation. Great with Dover Sole in a butter and lemon sauce.

Mount Brown Sauvignon Blanc, North Canterbury, New Zealand 2023 (13% Vol) Regular price £13.49

On the nose - white flowers, pear and a hint of apple. On the palate - fresh fruit flavours and vibrant acidity. Pairs well with spicy South East Asian dishes.

Esk Valley Merlot Rosé, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand 2021 (13% Vol) Regular price £13.95

This dry style Rosé is highly regarded and has won many awards since its first vintage in 1991. It is an excellent choice with many foods or as an aperitif. It is a beautiful pale luminescent pink, dry to taste with aromas and flavours of redcurrants, strawberry and fresh picked herbs.

Kuki Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand 2021 (13.5% Vol) Regular price £15.29

A powerful, slightly smokey Pinot from the stony vineyards of Marlborough. High class and with a brooding sense of power and vitality behind the sweet robe of dark fruits. Great with lamb chops.

Cranswick Estate Shiraz, New South Wales, Australia 2019 (14.5% Vol) Regular price £14.25

On the nose - spices, dark berries and earthy aromas. The palate displays ripe blackberries and spice followed by savoury overtones, all supported by a deft touch of oak from 12 months maturation. Soft tannins round off a precise and well-made Shiraz. Good with any BBQ'd meat (should the weather permit!)

Victoria Park Shiraz, South Australia 2019/21 (13.5% Vol) Regular price £11.60

This Shiraz has a deep aroma of fresh plums and subtle vanilla oak. Blackberries and strawberries on the palate make this a great match for grilled red meats.
