September Selection Box 2025 (Portugal)

This month we have six delicious wines from Portugal in our Selection Box. There is an excellent blend of native Portugese grapes from the famous Symington family, an outstanding Arinto - Verdelho blend from Alentejano, a Douro white from famed winemaker Jean-Hugues Gros, a great robust blend of Touriga Franca - Tinta Roriz - Tinta Barroca, a complex and moorish seven grape blend from Alentejano and a wonderful 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Touriga National from North West of Lisbon. As always - with tasting notes, all for the reduced price of £89.

Altano Branco, Symington, Douro, Portugal 2022, 2023 (12.5% Vol)

Wide aromatic range, beginning with hints of flint and traces of vanilla, then crème brûlée and lemon curd. Notes of butterscotch and a citric acidity which balances the structure on the palate. Good with creamy chicken dishes.

Quinta da Fonte Souto Florao Branco, Alentejano, Portugal 2023, 2024 (13.5% Vol)

On the nose - green apples, mango and a hint of pineapple. On the palate - crisp with fine acidity, showing melon, lemon and golden plum flavours.

Odisseia, Jean-Hugues Gros, Douro, Portugal 2023 (13% Vol)

Made from a blend of indiginous varieties Viosinho 40%, Rabigato 40% and Côdega de Larinho 20% grown between 450-650m altitude. The wine has a light yellow colour, it is made protectively for a fresh and clean style with vibrant fruit character. The nose is bursting with citrus notes such as grapefruit and stone fruit such as white peach, nectarine peel and honeysuckle. The concentrated fruit on the palate is balanced with fresh acidity and round mouth feel, leaving you with a long finish of ripe stone fruit.

On the nose - floral aromas and focussed fresh fruit. On the palate - red fruits and brambles accompanied by soft smooth tannins. Excellent with soft cheeses.

Quinta da Fonte Souto Florão Red, Alentejano, Portugal 2019, 2020 (14% Vol)

On the nose - hints of pine resin, floral notes and red fruit. Full bodied on the palate, black fruit with a touch of liquorice and fine tannins make this wine a great match for rich, hearty dishes.

Consensus Pinot Noir - Touriga Nacional, Lisboa, Portugal 2022 (13.5% Vol)

Showing intense and complex red fruit aromas on the nose. The palate is full bodied with ripe cassis and summer fruit flavours complemented by dried fruit and spice notes and a hint of vanilla. The finish is dry and long.
